Tie them on.. using all rope, no heavy shackle flying about if you let go in a seaway, easy to shorten up or end-for-end if chafe is an issue, Bowlines if you have the vertical clearance and the knot won't interfere with the hoist, or the knot shown in the thread below if that won't work.
