" and those xx'es are just a placeholder. Stolen software is still available on the web, but enforcement actions are getting stronger. And that's ignoring the amount of malware these sites often will give you, simply by opening their pages.
In the US there was an announcement last week by a number of major ISPs that they will give users multiple warnings, then start to take actions (like radically throttling their accounts) if they suspect substantial downloads of pirated copyrighted material. Which would be a tip-off that they are monitoring the sites, and prosecution could easily follow.
Better to ask a fellow cruiser if you can steal, ergh, borrow, a cup of sugar. (G)
