Currently I have wedges of wood which I use to block my mast, the current setup is not working to well, the wedges pop out over time. I was thinking of cutting a T shape out of wood to block the mast in place but I am curious about how other people do it. Pictures would be helpful if possible.
I replaced the wood wedges with some rubber plates I got from my rigger.
He stocks them in different thicknesses.
One piece on the aft section of the mast
Pull the mast backwards in the hole and insert the on in the front (tight fit)
The two pieces are so wide that I don't need any at the sides.
Hard rubber wedges were the standard specified by S&S. Spartite looks like a high tech version of same with the added benefit of sealing the deck opening.
I installed Spartite in January and have sailed to the Bahamas. So far I am very happy with installation. Not only does it do an excellent job of blocking the mast but we no longer get water, not even a drop, coming in around the mast.
I actually bought too much and have basically a small kit left over which I am willing to sell. If interested PM me although it's in Brunswick, Ga and I wont be back there until the end of April.
