Basic Information

For those who are new Allmand sailboat owners (as I am at the time I'm posting this), finding information on Allmands can be difficult. I've found two resources that could be useful to new owners:

* Allmand Sail Dedicated to bringing Allmand owners together has some information, including original sales brochures, for the 31 and 35. Unfortunately, many of the pages/links are significantly outdated and/or don't work, but it is still a good resource.

* https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/Allmand is a Google Group dedicated to Allmand owners. It doesn't see a lot of traffic, though. The files section there also has some good information on the boats, but it can be difficult to find.

Finally found the link to the Allmand files on Google Groups:

Re: Basic Information

Thanks for the leads Jim; I'm trying to find out how to identify if a 1981 Allmand 31 I'm looking at has a lead or cast iron ballast. I have a Clipper Marine 30, CM30 and just finished refairing the cast Iron keel. I don't ever want to do another so I'm a little concerned about what is inside the fiberglass skin.

Re: Basic Information

I believe they are encapsulated cast iron. See, for example, this thread:

Test it with a magnet?
