Ding ding ding..

It is great to have the Chat back. Many people seem to sign in to it and then go off to the forums. They fill the chat access lines (max of about 7 at a time??) but don't contribute. They probably aren't even following it, but their signing in keeps others (possibly) from participating. If there was a sound signal when someone posted to the chat, (a ding, a chirp, a swoosh....) it would alert people who might have signed on to it and were waiting for another "chatter" to show up that they should open it back up and participate. If people were signed in and not participating, the "dings" (or other sound) would help to get them to either sign off or participate - improving the experience for everyone. Is there a way to somehow add a noise?

Re: Ding ding ding..

paulk,

When I'm logged into chat and my browser is in the background, as long as my laptop sound is turned on I can hear a "swoosh" kind of sound when someone posts a message in the chat. Is that what you mean?

Re: Ding ding ding..

That is exactly what I mean. I have never heard any sound, despite the sound being "on". It may be because I'm using a Mac. It may be because my Mac is about 15 years old. Do others with Macs hear somethng and I don't? I don't know. A sound would be nice, either way.

Re: Ding ding ding..

Unless a user knows how to turn it off, they are automatically signed in it seems. Many probably don't even know they can turn it off.

I'm on my ipad now and, unless it has been disabled again, I don't even see the Chat box. That may mean that I am signed on and couldn't sign off if I tried.

By the way, I did browse through the chat the other day and saw all the anti-chat bashing. You all have better things to do in there, right?

Re: Ding ding ding..

One would think with all the effort expended on the chat some techno wizard could have made it possible for those of us who don't use it to disable it permanently instead of having to do it every time we log on.
