suggestion for easier forum navigation

I've found a useful feature on other sites, a "new" button next to the individual thread titles that takes the reader to the first unread message.

It saves the reader the step of clicking on the title to get to the first post then clicking "unread."

Don't know if it's something you can or want to implement but thought I'd offer it up.

To the left of the thread title is an icon that will take you to the first new post in a thread you are following. Is that what you mean?

Thanks Donna,

Let me amend my suggestion to relabel that icon to "new."

boz.. when you float your mouse over that 'down arrow' icon you get a little message that says "go to first new post"... seems it can't get any clearer than that??

Well that depends on if you have a mouse to use. You don't get the popup window using a tablet. General practice of designing websites are now going to a unified mobile/desktop interface. Of course the entire design of this site is circa 1999 or so. So why don't we party like it's 1999... (sorry did not mean to slip into Prince mode) [/Prince]

True... sorry, forgot to realize that a lot of the activity here is via tablet and phone now.. clearly the site is not yet optimized for that...

Re: suggestion for easier forum navigation

I don't think admin1 is reading this thread, but just in case.

That blue button doesn't work very well for me. On some devices it works as expected, on others (like my Macbook Air running OS X and Chrome) it usually just brings me to the first message in the thread.

I'd love if we could get the "View New Content" feature that Sailing Anarchy has. You can tell it which forums you want to monitor and it only shows you content for those. For any thread you can get a snippet of the first message, last message, and first unread message. It is a great quick view and much richer than going to "New Posts (no offtopic)" on SN. Here is a screenshot:

I'm no longer participating on SailNet.
