All I'd have to do is wait an hour or two under the new name, LandLocked66 . . .

From a moderator's point of view the name change was simply not acceptable.
SailNet has always taken a fairly hardline stance on the name change issue and although Ragnar/ster took a fairly novel approach, in the end we decided that the new name could not stand.
I think its fair to say that the final decision had little to do with the 'ignore' button issue. I'm happy to accept that Rags' announcement that he changed names to flout the 'ignore' function was drive by sarcasm.

Oh, so everyone was ignoring him? That's fairly common then!

For a number of reasons, Sailnet has never allowed user name changes without a compelling need. Multiple IDs are also not permitted, so only one ID can stand.

In the past many members have requested user id changes and have had them denied. We're simply being consistent with past practice as directed by admin.

name change

Seems to me there used to be a member by the name of Halekai who is now known as Mainesail. Is this another example of favouritism by moderators?

As Faster indicated, not every name change request is denied. In fact, the example cited above was approved by the owners of Sailnet several years ago, who deemed it in their interest to make an accommodation.

Note I said "name change request". This thread, in contrast, was started by a member who opened a second Sailnet member account without prior permission or even so much as prior notice to the moderators.

In other words, this was not a request for a name change on a single account. It was an issue of multiple user accounts, which we do not allow. How we resolve multiple user accounts may vary depending on the circumstances.

That, and ADM would never stand for it . . .

(For those who don't know, I was accused of posting as I do because I was paid to do so by big business. That accusation was rooted in another sarcastic comment of mine. Setting aside the fact that ADM and other less than ethical companies are largely the product of intrusive government and don't need to resort to this sort of thing: is the notion that a little guy can think that successful people have the same rights as the rest of us that much of a stretch?)

Anyway . . .

I apologize for the whole mess.

Yeah, this wasn't thought out very well, was it?

I did not try and circumvent the system and don't consider myself "favored" by the mods.

I asked politely for a name change because I used the same screen name on other forums and people were accusing me of stealing Halekai's or Maine Sails postings or photos or what ever, and it was all me. Sailnet is fair and they granted me a name change based on my specific case I presented. This did not happen over night and was a big deal that had to be done by the admins as mods don't normally have those access privileges to the vBulletin control panel..

I was not trying to hide from "blocked user" status and did not create a second user account. I wanted one screen name for all forums I am on to avoid further confusion. FWIW Cruisers Forums and Plastic Classic also granted my request.

Sailnet is not the only forum that dislikes multiple user ID's we also offenses very seriously, banable offense material, at Sailboat Owners, TS-BB & CS-BB.
