I am the originator/owner of a Yahoo group devoted to the Tartan 27 sailboat. We had to make membership conditional upon prospective members typing something significant as to why they wanted to join in order to eliminate spammers/bots joining if the membership was left open. Most of the spammers were Biker Chicks seeking bald boat owning guys. I still wonder what was so wrong with all of that except that I still have most of my hair.
My own boat website (unadvertised here for a reason) still gets spam from spambots on a regular basis. Not a big deal to clean up under word press but it as a testament to the spammers/dickheads tenacity who initiate such fraud.
Sometimes people only join to ask one single question and forget about this place as well.
Active members. Gee, I guess I am getting old...

The sky is definitely falling.

I joined back when I first got my Capri 14.2. Being honest now, I found the site to not really apply to much of what I do (which is lake sail). My boat was smaller than most of the topics here convey, and generally do not apply to me.

However, things change, and I've upgraded. I still sail inland lakes, but my boat is bigger, yet still not nearly as big as most of what is sailed by "active" members.

But then, I have sailed, and crewed on sailboats my whole life from 11 foot to 41 feet. Spent years on the Chessie, and Barnegat, so I have some experience to offer.

Honestly I was, initially, just getting my feet wet. This is why there was such a large span between postings by me. Lets hope my experience is indicative of a trend. Maybe we'll see a lot of these folks more often as they get 2FootItius and wanna upgrade!

I find most of the "active members" extremely helpful.

I was a SN member in 2000. Then I went sailing for a time. this year I came back to SN and found my old name but could not log on, so as luck would have it I created a name.
