PM Spam

Hi,

Just wanted to give you a heads up - I received a couple of spam messages via PM recently (never happened to me before that I can recall). Here's the email I received for one of them (I altered the embedded email address in the message, otherwise it's verbatim).

Regards,
Bill

Mine was sent directly to my gmail account from the same person:

How are you dear, my name is miss Linda single lady i will like you to write me here my email so that we can get to know each other better and also i will send you my photos ok here is my email (lindababyjohnson@yahoo.com) hoping to ear from you soon yours friend ms Linda

However, the beginning of the message has a disclaimer that Sailnet isn't responsible so I guess that means pointing it out to them won't make a difference.

This is a message from lindababyjohn at SailNet Community ( SailNet Community - Powered by vBulletin ). The SailNet Community owners cannot accept any responsibility for the contents of the email.

She's been banned... She managed to get out 49 PMs before we got to her..sorry about that.

Fortunately this hasn't happened too often.

The PMs should have been deleted on banning.. btw you can report PMs just as you would spam posts.

That's what happens when you let them get 10 quick nonsense posts in a row...

I think 10 post minmimum is fine, 99.9% of new members are legit, but you need to get rid of threads like the "Trash bin" nonsense cause it allows the other .1% a loophole to get into the system...

Legit posters can come up with 10 legit sailboat related posts before they need PM privacy...
