I'm really starting to feel like a second class citizen.
I get the feeling that I'm somehow a little sleazy to actually enjoy debating things that don't directly have to do with sailing.
I'm sorry, but there is more to life than boats people.
I make my living from boats and sometimes I like to talk and think about other stuff with my friends. Is that so weird?
I am not looking for a general purpose community in SailNet. Apparently you are. It would be interesting to know which of us represents the greater part of active SailNet members.
I agree Dave. Perhaps someone could do a poll.
I will agree here and now to take my low life sewer posting elsewhere if the majority chooses.
SailNet is my primary hangout on the net. I visit and enjoy a few others for various reasons, but SailNet is my mainstay. I look at new posts, and if there is some sailing related topic that I can contribute to. I do. Then I check out any off topic thread that catches my interest.
Do most people have a different message board that they frequent for every different interest they have?
Certainly some of the off topic threads degenerate into childish name calling and pedantic one upmanship. But sometimes good information is shared and sometimes those with an open mind actually learn important things.
I also think it's a little unfair to say that all the childish arguing takes place in off topic. I can distinctly remember quite a number of threads in general discussion that were as bad or worse than the average political discussion in off topic.
