Hard to imagine someone being so petty as to try to go back and edit out things they've said, on the sly.

Yeah, but what if you had your head up your arse when you wrote it and later had a change of heart... ??

I know we aren't supposed to say things we wouldn't want our three year old repeating, but sometimes some real stupidity can slip out..

This probably isn't a voting situation, but I want the option to edit my posts.

And now that I've tested it out, I do have it. Great.

Not if someone has already quoted you as saying it. Especially if the person who has edited their post then tries to claim the quote is wrong, which from what I understand, is part of the problem.

Okay, not so great. I'll just return to voting for the return of a proper edit button then.

I should have added, that if someone is editing their posts so as to make someone else look wrong, they should be warned once, and then banned if it happens again. No need to disable the edit feature, just disable those who abuse it.

I think Sammich has nailed it.

I agree with him twice in one week. This maybe a sign that the Mayans are right.

One of the Mod's said they would revisit it next week. Seems pretty clear everyone wants the edit button available - I sure do.

I, myself, personally intend to continue being outspoken and opinionated, intolerant of all fanatics, fools and ignoramuses, deeply suspicious of all those who have "found the answer" and on my bad days, downright rude.

The edit button is visible for 24 hours after posting a message. We have found that leaving it on indefinitely has enabled a number of members to go back and attempt to rewrite history. The length of time we will leave it enabled is under review but leaving it on indefinitly (as we have in the past) is out of the question.

The 24 hour current setting it typical of nearly all online forums.
