Re: "NEW POSTS" counter fubar?

If the bottom of the page is too far to travel...

Two tabs over from "new posts" tab (at TOP of page) is "Quick Links"...ckick that and then "Mark all read"...

Re: "NEW POSTS" counter fubar?

My point being, top or bottom, I would prefer an auto reset of older posts! For those that want a manual, great, they can have the current baloney, those that prefere a 2-3 hr auto reset from last visit, why can we not have an option to set soemthing like this up?

There are times based on the title, I will not read the thread, as it does not interest me, I probably have nothing to add or equal. After a period of time, I would prefer it to be gone from the unread part of it.

It seems simpler to have a "I CHOOSE" the reset time if at all on older posts. I do not wish to do it manually, Be it at the top or bottom. An option like this would/should work for everyone!

Boy, it's a good thing that "Mark all" is the third listing on that flydown menu. Because...Oh yeah, you guessed it, lines 5-6-7 are totally hidden behind the banner that has the urgent news with the number of heart likes on it.

Guys, really, if you want more traffic you don't need more lace and frills on the site, just cut the rates at the bar. Or at least, serve the Gosslings in bigger glasses, eh?

Re: Wonder how many have noticed ...

All this over an Icon that does not do anything but scroll? Really? It doesn't take up any more bandwidth as it is probably like an animated gif and is download once and only once. Unless of course you clear your cache. Seems like the same mole hill has become a mountain over on the "unread thread" thread. I mean really folks, there are so many other things to worry about around here. Like granite counter tops and if I can sail my Widgeon from Key West to the Bahamas without ever stepping foot on a sailboat before......

Re: "NEW POSTS" counter fubar?

Other side of the coin .... this new setup really suits me. I'm virtually never here Friday - Monday and can disappear for weeks at a time when we head off for one of our mini cruises. Being able to catch up with posts that are older than 24 hours is for me quite a boon.

I'd agree with Marty that it would be nice to have a "User Option" and I'd think if this possible within the software that admin would give it serious thought. To be honest though I don't know if such an option is a possibility.

Re: "NEW POSTS" counter fubar?

Fuzzy,

I would think......OUCH......dang nabbit, look what you made me do......think.......OUCH.......need to quit doing that, hurts me brain electron....

anyway, with you being gone for a period of time, then re enter, the software even with an auto reset should allow you to see ALL the past posts you have not read all the way back to your last log in. I know that has been the case when I log on to SA/AS and a few others after not doing so for some time.

But having the how quick of a reset when logged in frequently would be nicer than having to clear it! I do see both sides, but if it is possible for a setting with in the user cp, that would make it better/best for both sides.

Yes, it is just a animated .gif. And favicons if I remember correctly are 16x16 pixels.

HS... not trying to start another browser war, but curious which you're using.. I'm not seeing that kind of 'interference' on PC/Chrome or Mac/Safari

I'm using Firefox on a PC. I don't see it, either. The bottom of the list of menu items drops down below my browser window because it's too long, but I just scroll down if there's something I want. But that's been happening for the year I've been posting.

Re: "NEW POSTS" counter fubar?

Under the old setup, if you Wanted to read something you didn't have time to get to, it would be marked as read after 30 mins. No way to get it back. No way to remark it unread. Go searching randomly. This new way, you can decide what you do and don't want marked. A quick click at he top of the screen and you're reset to zero.

I don't get how the old way was better, just simpler and more limited.

Edit..... This was the first thread I opened to tonight. I just looked at my New Subscribed Threads, which would be all threads where I previously posted and might want to see if anyone replied to a previous post. There are 12 on the list and I don't have time to get to them all right now. If I read a couple and then went and had dinner, the rest would be gone when I got back under the old system.
