Permanently disabling chat

When I come to the website I always disable the chat, yet it invariably re-activates itself the next time I come back to the site.

How do I get rid of it permanently? I find it to be extremely annoying and frankly I've begun to favor other sailing forums because I don't have to deal with it there.

Yep, I agree. For those of us that never use it it's a pain. Does anyone use chat?

Re: Permanently disabling chat

Don't go there myself either.. I believe if you turn it off in a session, and use the 'remember me' feature (cookies enabled) then it will stay off. If you truly 'log off' and then log back in (clearing cookies) it may come back.

In any event it's only a couple of clicks to turn it off. I realize that's not ideal but for now that's the best we can suggest.

Re: Permanently disabling chat

We've seen this said on occasion before this but I confess to being somewhat confused. There are times when computer reboots after updates that chat reappears but it most certainly doesn't do it every time I log on to SailNet.

Sadly however I must advise that their doesn't seem to be any permanent "will no one rid me of the meddlesome app" switch.

Quite a few of us do and although I was skeptical at first, I thoroughly enjoy it. However, I sympathize with those who want it to stay off.

I created a "How to Turn Off the Chat Feature" document with screen shots and step by step instructions for the admins to prominently post but I guess they decided not to.

If you click the gear icon in the opened "XX People Here" box and then choose Turn Off, it will turn off for that session for some, always for others.

That's not the number of people signed into the chat, it's the number of users online total.

Re: Permanently disabling chat

I set my ad blocker to block http://d.envolve.com/env.nocache.js -- that keeps the chat from ever loading in the first place. If you don't have an ad blocker, I guess you could always add the domain d.envolve.com to your hosts file, and point it locally.

Re: Permanently disabling chat

I Don't chat, I was a chat room manager for MSN years ago. Even had so cool software to manage up to 7 chats.
