Yep
It's the site owners sandbox and they can do whatever they choose.

While I agree that they are annoying, I also understand this webistes need to generate revenue and show that it is a viable business... blah blah blah. They are crappy to look at but maybe it's just something they had to do to make someone up the chain happy

If you hover over them, they are pretty easy to figure out where they lead you.

Re: Auto links in Sailnet Posts - don't like them

They don't bother me so much as to drive me to complain. Besides, maybe I'm reading a
thread about compasses and BOOM a link to a fantastic sale. I see it as a service and mini commercials.

Re: Auto links in Sailnet Posts - don't like them

The auto links are not a big deal, "UNTIL" you try to link say a story elsewhere, or equal which includes one of the auto link words, then the link you the poster are trying to get to is screwed! the general auto link in the post is something one can read thru over etc. It is when they over ride what I am trying to post is when I get PO'd per say.

Points taken on the links (pro and con) but I'm going to move this thread out of General Sailing.

Yes, the links are an effort for the site owners to increase revenue.

Can you give an example Marty?

Not a problem here. Seems users can override with their own link. Here is the word Compass and I redirected the link here:Compass

Re: Auto links in Sailnet Posts - don't like them

Tim,

I have to admit, maybe I have not seen them, or they reappeared......I had not seen the hyperlinks for a bit. The last time a post like this showed up, the issue was one might link an "anchor" manufacture, say www jones anchor dot com as an example, and the anchor part of the jonesanchor would hyperlink, not allowing the actual link to jonesanchor, because the sailnet hyperlink broke "my" link up! I have to admit, I have to tried linking to another site with one of SN's hyperlinked words that I know of recently. It "was/may not be" an issue at this time.

Re: Auto links in Sailnet Posts - don't like them

They don't bother me. Clearly they are making an effort to sell product. I can understand that they might bug some more than others.
