compression post I Beam

Hello all, just got into sailing last year and I'm about to buy my 1st boat.
Just looking to learn on this one, but not sure what I'm looking at.
Its a 30' hunter, old 1980's
The metal I beam at the BASE of the compression post is bent ?
How bad is that and can it be repaired ?
Anyone ever have this happen ?
Any info would help.
Thanks.
chuck

Yes, pics will help a lot.. is the cabin top similarly deflected? What is the I beam made of? any visible corrosion/rust/etc? What year (early 80s or late/89?- two very different boats)

Hello again I can't get pictures the boat is to far away.Should have when I was there yesterday.
The boat is a 1980 hunter.the compression post is wood sitting on top of what looks like a small I BEAM.
Top side looks and sounds soild.Everything sounds good & soild.
When you lift the bilge cover you can see the I BEAM and its bent.
The surveyer said to get it looked at. im just looking for a SAFE boat to learn on. He said it should be OK for what I'm trying to do. Just trying to get more input.Any info would help.

Fire the surveyor and keep looking.
Not that it MIGHT not be okay - but in this market it is pointless to take a boat that has problems.
Remember a free boat that has a problem is still a boat you have to fix or dispose of.
