Re: Wombat returns .... tale follows ...

Paulo .... one month nowhere near enough time, could not agree more. We'll probably do it again around Easter but I really need to increase the cruising time. Other than that planning on an NZ charter.

Caleb ... are you saying I'm pompous ? Man that hurts. I know I'm a sometimes overly verbose smart arse but pompous ? Gee whiz. I missed all the Enigma excitement, must go and check out the posts. What did he do to get banned ? Ref Kindle (ish thingys) I am a complete convert.

Hartley .... plenty of reading and thinking time. Finished your last but I'm afraid it change nothing, indeed in many ways the reverse. We'll talk more about this. Downloaded a bunch of P G Wodehouse and Josef Conrad plus paper editions of Peter Ackroyd's History of England vol II and an absolute gem of a book called "The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared" by Jonas Johanson.

Andrew old friend, you've done well if you've managed to get through Conrad's 'Lord Jim' and 'Heart of Darkness' in the time you were away. Heavy going, that is.

Have you read Slocum's 'Alone Around The World' lately?!? That's good for long-distance cruising inspiration (so are Mrs Brassey's books - but they're in a different class altogether).

Andrew,

Pompous is hardly the word for it! Whatever it is that you ARE you were missed. I can tell you that.

Speaking of pompous, you'd have to verify this with CruisingDad, but I believe the Enigma fellow was banned for being a pompous arse. It was actually kind of amusing to read this fellows ravings and the reactions he stirred up from the rabble. I just can't remember which off-topic thread he helped to hijack. CD ought to know.

Cheers!

I believe it was the banstick thread that got him banned but I try to avoid off topic.

You mean a guy was banned on the banstick thread? Jesus that is pretty sarcastic.

Re: Wombat returns .... tale follows ...

TD, hope you had a wonderful cruise.

Just to catch you up, in your absence Sailnetters:
  • Agreed on the single best anchor for all boats.
  • Came up with a unified security solution (no more gun threads).
  • Resolved once and for all the best boats for each every type of cruising.
  • Solved global warming.
  • Provided CD with the best recipe for BBQ'd bulldog.
  • And except for that Enigma fellow everyone on Sailnet has kissed and made nice. Even the righties and lefties in off topic are holding hands and singing Kumbayah.
  • Oh and Smacky taught Paulo about wedgies.
So really nothing much happened while you were away...

Yessiree, that is the one. I knew it had a very meaningful and deep thread title and was started by one of SN's deepest thinkers: SmackDaddy.

The end bits of it were quite amusing where ol' Enigma kept spouting off about what I'm not quite sure.

Whatever you are reading on your Kindle-ish thingy is probably more interesting though. Don't tell me you have a Nookie?
