There is an excellent and very comprehensive list of maritime literature that Professor Richard King PhD, staff, and students of the Williams-Mystic Maritime Studies Program (including yours truly) have made available here:
Searchable Sea Literature

This was setup to be used as a resource for Williams-Mystic students, as well as anybody else who is interested in Maritime Literature. Where possible links to searchable texts have been provided.

Cheers!

I picked up a fascinating book at a 2nd hand bookstore, about a father and son who sailed around Cape Horn in a 25 ft sailboat. The book is called My Old Man and the Sea, by David and Daniel Hays.

Recommended Read for Offshorers - Little Boat Big Ocean

Another book that you may find enlightening is 'Little Boat Big Ocean' by UK author Alan Rush. A detailed transcript of his sailing log that he made whilst crossing the Pacific in 1979 from British Columbia to San Francisco to the Hawaiian Islands and beyond, single-handed in a 21ft wooden sail boat. As well as beautifully detailing his journey and the conditions he endured, it also vividly describes the time he spent working as a Relief Manager of a coconut plantation on a remote coral atoll called Fanning Island. Highly recommended read. Do let me know if you have also read it and, if so, what you thought of it.

The book can be found on Amazon Amazon.com: Little Boat Big Ocean (9781907652462): Alan Rush: Books.

"The voyage of the Libradade" and "Sailing alone around the world" by J. Slocum both are exellent reads with some good "seat of your pants" ideas about seamanship.

I've only read a book called "Racing Rules Of Sailing" or something along those lines. My buddy wants me to join him in some race in Southern California...not sure if I'll be ready by then. I'm going to look at all these books that you've all recommended. Thanks for the help!
