Jack,

how do you like the navionics app? I turned in my blackberry and picked up an evo 4g last week. Looks like it's $14 U.S. Does it do Live tracking?

It is OK. I also have a laptop based system (Open CPN, with a BU -353)

I like the community aspect of navionics: marina phone numbers, restaurants, etc..

I have spotted a few errors that have send in for correction.

It does do live tracking.

I got it because I knew folks would ask me about it.

Jack

I like google sky. Just hold it up to a point in the sky and it tells you what star or planet you are looking at.

That derelict boat was another dream for somebody else, don't let it be your nightmare and a waste of your life.

Jack, did you get Navionics recently? I can't seem to find "Marine: British Columbia" anywhere.

Using navionics on the iPhone. Was $10. I would NOT (yet) rely on it for my primary charting, but just funking around freshwater it is decent. It got me across the lake (where I already kind of knew where I was) in pitch black the other night around shoals.

I does track saving, POIs, basic directionals, has pretty up to date charts, although you have to download them as you change regions (not huge, 3-6meg?) It does occaisionally lockup my iphone. It also gives speed and distance travelled in Metric/US/Nautical. There is also a flip up for local windspeed and weather, sunrise/sunset/moonrise/moonset/tides.

Overall, for $10 its a steal. I really think though a tablet would be better suited for it, the phone is kinda small.

Hi Adam

In the past 6 months. Do a search in the Marketplace for Navionics.

You have to be running 2.1 at least.

Hm. I can see a lot of other "Marine: X" packages but not ours. In some places it seems to have been pulled.

Running 2.2.

Interesting I just checked my Market - no can see.

It shows on the Navionics website.

I wrote Navionics to find out why.

From Navionics

Quote:
Jack,
Due to recent agreements with the Canadian Hydrographic Service, Navionics is currently conducting updates for Canadian cartography. This app is currently not available through the Android Market. We hope to have this coverage area available for purchase in the near future.
If you need any additional information, please do not hesitate to ask.

Best regards,
Navionics Mobile Team
