Atomic Diesel 5432 Fresh Water Pump

Coming in the other day after being out in the bay, I saw my temperature gauge pegging. After docking and waiting to cool down I opened up the engine compartment and saw a spray line up the bulkhead. There was water/antifreeze coming from my fresh water pump. I pulled the pump off and am now looking for a replacement. After doing some checking I have found that 'on line' they run from $410-$475. Does that seem right or am I looking at the wrong web sites? The part # I have is 298845 and the gasket is 298846. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

On some other threads in this section you will find information on kubota tractor part sources.

Like Denise said, you need to find out the Kubota block number and then what tractor they put it in.

For example, my Universal 5424 has a D-1101 block and they put it in the L245 tractor. Right away on the interweb you can find the water pump for $109.

A little search and I found this thread :

Universal 5432 & M40 engine information

The fresh water pump is a Kubota part and will be much cheaper if you can identify the part number. The raw water pump is not. It's part of the Universal marine conversion and you are stuck paying the crazy marine price.

Slightly off topic.
If your raw water pump is an Oberdorfer M20x model you can get reasonably priced parts for it from Moyer Marine.

Well worth the time to research the Kubota equivalent part as you will save a boat load of $$$'s.

Re: Atomic Diesel 5432 Fresh Water Pump

MarkSF,
Thanks, about $350 worth. That is the difference between what a local yacht sales place and ebay charges for the same pump. Now I have to spend that amount of money on antacids because I'm so pissed off at these local dealers that rape people for standard parts.
Again, thanks for making that information available.

Re: Atomic Diesel 5432 Fresh Water Pump

Glow plugs for your engine at Torreson: $90+ per plug
Same plugs at a Kubota tractor website: $9 per plug.
The "marine" markup is just asstounding. Gives me agita too.

Re: Atomic Diesel 5432 Fresh Water Pump

What these distributors are doing to sailors is obscene. I am wondering what, if anything, can be done about the rape of the marine community?

Re: Atomic Diesel 5432 Fresh Water Pump

Thanks to all for your inputs re: my Universal 5432 fresh water pump. After help from y'all (that's southern speak) the price went from $450 (from a local yacht broker) to $72.70 on ebay. (and the locals don't even kiss you first) I am livid and telling everyone that has the patience to stop and listen to my tirade about how local boat dealers are really sticking it to the boating public.
Thanks again.

Re: Atomic Diesel 5432 Fresh Water Pump

Also, thank you all for this thread. Does anyone know (or PaulCR1 specifically since you made the change out) how you find the Kubota block number so I can cross reference for the correct fresh water pump. Thanks for any input.
