Compression test w/o closing thru-hull water

I did a compression test on my FWC atomic 4 without closing the sea water thru-hull valve. I replace the plugs and tried to start it. The engine would not start after a few tries so I went on the web and discovered that I should have closed the sea water thru-hull valve. Have I damaged the engine? Will it start? How?
