No offense intended, but a marine engine starter, I hope.

Get the Moeller. Check this thread: Which oil changing pu_mp is best? for more feedback on it. Couple that with Moyer's oil change kit for the A4, found on this page, and oil changes on your A4 will be so easy you'll look forward to doing them

When I change the oil in our A4, I warm the engine up a bit, shut it off and let it sit for 10 minutes or so to let all the oil get back down into the pan, and pump it out. I've got the tube from the Moyer oil change kit ending just behind the removable companionway steps, so it's real easy to get to.

Check out Maine Sail's Re-Packing A Traditional Stuffing Box How-To. Look at the 5th picture, where he's got the stuffing box separated. The end with the rubber hose is the aft end, and its between that part of the stuffing box and the shaft where bunches of water will come out. You take a length of slit-open bicycle inner-tube, wrap it around there good and tight, and tie it--slowing-down water entry while you re-pack the nut.

At least I'm told it works. I've never tried it.

Yes, I ordered it form Moyer, a Delco rebuilt unit. Thanks again! I will report back how this packing procedure works.

It runs! Started on the first crank! I have changed the oil three times and is starting to come out clear. One more time and it should be good to go.

What a good feeling. I need to repair the shifter cable and we will take it for a spin.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

Has anyone installed an oil pressure/temperature alarm? How about an engine speed governor?

Yes, easy to do, and a recommended item, methinks. Don Moyer sells a standard kit. I haven't heard of using an engine speed governor on an A4 in the couple of years I've been reading forums about this engine.
