Valve Lash Adjustment

Looking for experienced suggestions for tightening the locknut after adjustment. Would appear the best tactic might be to 'grab" the lifter - small vise-grip??? - and tighten the locknut down, having adjusted some small extra clearance into the lash to account fo the inevitable movement of the lifter head "screw" as I tighten the locknut.

How brittle is the lifter? Since it is hardened, I am worried about chipping it if I grab it with vice grips...

TIA -

Don

yup, you got it.
the lifter is polished (thats a relative term, its smooth finished) but I doubt seriously that you'd be able to score it.
small vise grips will work, or a small pair of channel locks (we used to call 'em "water pump pliers, I dunno why)
