That Bavaria costs 1/3 of the price of an 40ft Halberg-Rassy. Even with gains from the mass production it has to be some shortcuts.
The boat should not be in such a bad state. I had a 36ft Bavaria for 7 years (bought new), made more than 10 000 miles with it, not always in good weather and never had any major problem.
The after service from Bavaria is very good (at least in Europe). You have just to have the number of the hull and talk with a dealer (not the manufacturer), preferably a big one. The factory has a complete list of parts used on each boat and at the dealer request can send the right part to you. Parts, like hatches and portholes are made by major manufacturers and you can also order from them.
