Ocean series vs cruiser series
I was wondering if anyone could fill me in on the difference between the ocean series Bavarias vs the cruiser series. From what I have been able to gather the ocean series was built a bit stouter and for only a few years. I saw something about the profit margin was not there to justify the continuation of the line. Can anybody either confirm or deny this. Any other info would be appreciated, thanks.
My understanding is that the increased structural costs and weight penalties associated with the Ocean series combined with a more limited target market were deciding factors for the series.
The European charter market demographic with its requirement for multiple cabins was significantly greater than the cruising-couples-desirous-of-a-40-foot-two-cabin-design market. That seems a reasonable explanation for the short duration of the Ocean series.
I find the Ocean 40 to be a sound and quite comfortable boat for a couple and I think it offers good value for money. I'm very happy to own one.
Re: Ocean series vs cruiser series
I have a Bavaria 46, purchased new in 2006. Sailed ot of the Med across the Atlantic thru the canal and presently in Puerto Vallarta. So far the boat has performed well. Minor complaints about some of the accessories - eg. the mirrors in the heads but generally boat has done well by me.
