Re: Modified strainer lid for flushing and winterizing
Clear polycarbonate and nylon strainer lids are subject to crazing by propylene glycol, and to a lesser extent, ethylene glycol. Add the stress introduced by the fitting screwed into a thin section not designed for threads, and cracking seems probable.
It would be safe enough if the modified lid were used and then the strainer left open, which is best for the strainer.
Thus, modifying the piping with a tee and a valve seems safer.
