First 285 Spreaders

Can anyone tell me how the spreaders are attached to the mast on a First 285 (1989 model)? I was looking at a friends boat and by grabbing the shroud and moving it back and forth, the spreader would move as well where it is attached to the mast. Thanks in advance for any information.

I have a 1987, I think they should be the same.
There is a casting riveted to the mast which the spreaders
are atached to with two cotter pin. Eventhough the system
seem,s a bit flimsy it is more then adequate with the right
tension on shrouds
