Beneteau 37 teak seats

2008 Beneteau 37

Teak seats.
I am about to refinish

I have been told that these seats are a veneer and I have been told that they are slats(solid). this will determine how much sanding I do.

Does anyone know for sure ?

Re: Beneteau 37 teak seats

Any good photos of this job? I'll be doing this to mine soon. Should make a nice cosmetic difference in the cockpit.

I'm interested in seeing before and after shots as well. The teak on my seats is pretty bad and I've been thinking about replacing it. A neighbor down the dock put a synthetic teak material on his which actually looks really good now that it's complete. I was a bit skeptical during the install.

Re: Beneteau 37 teak seats

I was curious as well about the synthetic stuff. I can see it being better in a few ways. Is it much cheaper?

I don't know what the regular teak costs but from what I was told, the synthetic he has can be purchased two ways. One is by the roll which Ithink were less than 4" wide and I'm not sure how much that was. He did his that way and it looks good but took a lot of time.

The other way is to make a template if the area and send it in. They will lay up the material, bond it together and send it to you. The cost for this was about $20 per square foot. I was thinking about doing this on mine since I'm almost certain my teak is shot. By the way my neighbor was talking I'm thinking it's cheaper than replacing the teak. It would be good to get pricing per square foot to do teak for a comparison.

Re: Beneteau 37 teak seats

My first 42 has very little teak, so $20 per foot is not bad at all.

I don't know who was the manufacturer but I'll ask him when I see him next. My First 42 is probably like yours in that the seat teak is pretty much all I have. The cockpit grate is made of teak but is a lot newer and in good shape so I'm lucky there.

Re: Beneteau 37 teak seats

Yes, probably the same. I think the wood in mine would have to be replaced, instead of simply sanded and resealed. Is the synthetic stuff any softer or grippier?
