UV Damage to main with in-mast furling
I have a 2009 Beneteau 343 with in-mast furling. My main has suffered UV damage to various sections along the leech; some on the edge some as much as 5 or 6 inches from the edge. The sail is otherwise in great shape. Is there a chance that light is hitting the sail from slot? My sail does "fill up" the inside of the mast in a manner that allows a little bulging out.
Has anyone else have such an experience? Any thoughts on a fix? I suppose I can sew on a UV protector beyond the clew corner but I am afraid it will thicken the sail which will make furling tougher. Ideas welcome.
