Buying a 1999 Beneteau 352. Any owners group out there?

We are thinking of Holland, Michigan. We live in Kalamazoo and it's about an hour and 10 minutes away. South Haven wold be closer but the facilities aren't as nice and the availability of slips between the lake and the bridge downtown are limited, and beyond the bridge the river is narrow and depth becomes an issue in the slips. This will be our first year so we wll test it out.

While we love to stop at South Haven, we grounded when entering a slip at the Muni Marina (museum side) last year in late June. Lake Michigan water levels were 17.4 inches lower, as of this March, than they were last June. :( I don't think we will be back there unless Lake Michigan recovers or South Haven does some dredging.

Lake Macatawa (Holland) is a deep water port with plenty of depth for a 352. We have stayed at Eldean's Marina and were quite happy with their facilities.

"Sailor Tim" at Anything Sailing Forum has a B361 at Eldean's Marina and he would be a good resource to answer any question you might have about the lake.

Are you the buyers of Wanderlust in Whitehall?

Good luck this season. We're crossing to Ludington this year and heading north in search of deeper water.

Yes, we are purchasing Wanderlust in Whitehall. The survey is this Friday and hopefully all will go smoothly. We are actually going to be in Milwaukee the weekend after next for the Midwest Women's Sailing Conference. We've been sailing our '98 B-352 out of Rock Hall on the Chesapeake since the summer of "08. Mostly weekending & some 3 & 5 day trips each season. Very comfortable, performs well for a 35' cruiser & a pleasure to back up into a tight slip. We have the furling main which is a good choice for cruising. But note: a B-351 "Jeroboam" (with standard main) just placed first on elapsed & corrected time in class for the OSTAR race. So, if you have the standard main it can kick up its heels too.

Those of you with the 351/352 Beneteau, our plastic screens for the side cabin hatches are missing the plastic pieces that attach them to the hatch openings. Any idea wha they are called or maybe what the part numbers so we can replace them?

Hi Shari,

The screens don't use any attachment hardware.

The screens are labeled "outside" on one side,
Open the side window (nautical term is 'portlight'),
Go outside on deck,
Gently insert the screen between the outer frame and the rubber gasket with the "outside" label facing out. The small tabs and the raised edge around the screen do a pretty good job of holding the screen in place.

The screens can be left in place when the port is closed. Like everything on a boat, the sun's UV will degrade the plastic screens so you might consider removing them if away from the boat for extended periods of time.

Headed for Ludington and points north this Thursday for an 18 day cruise. Hope you are enjoying Wanderlust.

Backing into a slip makes it easier to connect/disconnect the shore power, easier access to the hose for washing deck & filling water tanks, easier to get on/off at the cockpit (most use the side at the cockpit for access), easier to leave the dock, better to socialize with other friendly slipholders and passers-by on our dock. Our marina has fixed docks and 95% of the boats are in the slip stern first.
