Catalina 42, Fully Cruise Equipped and Ready To Go! SOLD

Our cruise equipped Catalina 42 is looking for a new cruising owner. She has taken us safely and reliably from the Dominican Republic to the Chesapeake Bay over the last 10 years and has crossed the Gulf Stream 16 times. Mandalay is well known in the Bahamas.

With the exception of the wonky wind generator, everything works properly and she is ready to go at a moment's notice. She is spotless (well almost), well-equipped, safe and comfortable. She is presently in a slip in Florida and welcomes serious lookers. She is priced about $100,000 less than a new sister ship!!

Here is the detailed scoop -

Well she sure is a beauty. What's the kitchen like? I suppose since this post is from September she's been sold already?

Colin,

Nice boat. How did you find the standard/deep draft of your C42 for sailing in the Bahamas? Did you ever wish that you had chosen the shoal draft version?

Thanks for your thoughts.

The boat has been sold but thanks for your interest. The draft was not a problem in the Bahamas. there were a few places we did not go due to depths but not many. There are more shallow spots in the ICW than in the Bahamas, although we made it the full length of the ICW four times.

Colin, thanks for that feedback. Much appreciated. And congrats on selling the boat.

General Information

Colin

I am emailing from Thailand and have been looking at boats for cruising. Your's looked really good and was well fitted out.
Was the Catalina a "good" boat?

I have also enjoyed reading your web site about saling etc. Very interesting.

Can I be so rude, so as to give me some idea of the market, as to what price you eventually got for it? Did you expect to sell so quick? I suppose quality boats do.

Thanks

Neil

Hi Neil,

Thanks for your interest. The Catalina is indeed a good boat. Well designed and built. The furniture is perhaps not as good as a boat that costs twice as much, but there is nothing at all wrong with the hull, rig, engine, etc. etc. She sailed and motored well and we had few if any problems with anything that came from Catalina. No blisters after 11 years.

We sold the boat in six months. Had two offers - one a lowball which we declined and one about 10% less than the asking price which we accepted. A neighbor's boat took three years to sell but it was an unknown brand compared to Catalina.

Yes the economy is down, but not everybody is directly affected.

Glad you like my webpage!

Colin
