depends....

...on a lot of variables: fixed keel or swing-up? inboard diesel or outboard? standard or tall rig? dinette interior or standard saloon? Pop-top or no? Mostly, what year and what condition? Is an survey available?

One way to compare prices is the Auto Dealers' Web site: Used 1986 CATALINA YACHTS 25 prices, specs and options at NADAguides.com
The Catalina 25 is a great all-around coastal cruiser but I wouldn't take mine on an ocean voyage. It's good for an overnight or so, but as a boat for liveaboard, the headroom would become an issue.

Check out the Owners' Web site, too: Catalina - Capri - 25s International Association

Re: Buying Advice on Catalina 25

Hi - I am thinking about partnering with someone on a Catalina 25. I used to sail a 27, and a 34, but don't know how a 25 sails. This guy likes it because he can take his family out for "boat rides", but I want something fast and sea worthy. I like going out off the coast for about 2 hours and back again - off San Diego. No cruising. How does it handle in the ocean? I've heard from once source that it's a slug and should stay away from it - better to get a Capri 22 or 27. What is the concensus?

Thanks,

Christine

Re: Buying Advice on Catalina 25

Slug Check PHRF # for boats in your area. I get the same old line of crap from those that don't look up the # "Who care about the PHRF # I am not a racer " It is a good way to get measuring stick for all boats. On Lake Erie the C 25 rates a 235 a Capri 22 smaller boat rates a 204. A J 24 rates 174, J 24 compared to the C 25 64 seconds a mile HUGE difference. In a 20 mile race the C 25 needs to finish over 21 minutes sooner then a J 24.
