Your statement (see below) seems to suggest the MacGregors were not designed to be sailboats. They were designed to be a hybrid and to appeal to the powerboat crowd that wants to sail. And they do that with some compromise. Below is a portion of a Mac 26 review. And it is not a bad review either. But no, they don't appeal to someone who owns a boat that is more purely a sailboat. On the other hand it's probably the only sailboat owned by anyone on Sailnet that you can waterski behind.

FadaMor is on a distinguished road
mitiempo,
You said,"Your statement (see below) seems to suggest the MacGregors were not designed to be sailboats."

Here is your comment, followed by the statement you are referring to

mitiempo: And most have nothing bad to say about the MacGregor as long as it is used as designed

Me: Your statement is correct if the MacGregor boats were not designed to be sailboats.

My statement only suggests that Macs were not designed to be sailboats, if you believe they were not, which appears to be your position.

The MacGregors were designed to be sailboats, compromises to make them able to motor better not withstanding.

My statement was that I agreed with your original statement, if the boats were not designed to be sailboats. I did not say designed to be round the world racing sailboats, or boat that can carry enough food and water for on ocean crossing. Nor did I suggest that they were designed to be only sailboats with no significant powering ability.

All I claim, for purposes of the statement you quoted, is that it was designed to be a sailboat. Even if it doesn't meet everyone's definition of a sailboat.

I would like to put this thread to rest. At least the MacGregor part of it. Even though the OP trolled with the Mac26 in the subject, the thread was really about he wants a 28ft+ boat he can sail in Maine for less than $20K.

Can anyone give him some suggestions?
