Happiest Day...Not.

Sold my first sailboat today...a Beneteau 361 which I've owned on the Chesepeake (Annapolis) for the past three seasons. Thought this was supposed to be the second happiest day in my life. Wrong. I'm miserable and having second thoughts... I thought that was only supposed to happen to buyers.

I loved my boat and all of the adventures it brought me, my kids, my brother, sister, Dad, friends, etc. Lot's of great gunkhole stories. Loved watching the races on Wed. from the hook outside the Academy...with steaks on the grill...after an afternoon of sailing of course. Loved going under the Bay Bridge, finding new places to drop the hook...way too much alcohol...sunsets, waking to the sound of Herons, Ospreys on the markers. I'm a lucky man.

Hey, Boat owning was (is) expensive, but I think it was worth every cent....I didn't sail her as much as I would have liked (fear of the going in and out of the dock solo), but still loved simply hanging out with her and doing this and that....lots of small and not so small jobs. Learned a boatload...no pun intended...diesel course, navigation course, gel coat techniques, staining wood, aground once or twice, learned lots through lots of mistakes.... Ah well... I must focus on the positive. Gotta start thinking about the next boat. If you're in the market for a sailboat...if you've been stung by the sailing bug...go out and do it...just do it...life is too short. In the mean time, it's rentals for for me...until, or course, my next boat.

I trashed that silly quote years ago ..its never been the case for me either..In fact quit the opposite as im always having to give the boat away to make the sale..

The purchase price of a boat is just the admittance fee to the dance...you still have to spend money on the girl...so court one with something going for her with pleasing and desirable character traits others desire as well... or you could find yourself in a disillusioned relationship contemplating an expensive divorce.
