Purchasing from another country

hello

i love the sadler 34 and it seems that the only ones for sale are in england obvoisuly or somewhere not in the US.

so my question how difficult would it be to purchase one from across the pond and bring back whether by sailing or shipping it? which would be cheaper? how difficult would it be to have surveyed and all that legal paper work?

hopefully here has some expirience in this department

anyway thanks alot in advance

Not difficult at all. While working in the USCG Office of Boating Safety I dealt with this all the time. If it is a sailboat with a diesel engine about all you need to make sure complies with US rules are the head, and the nav lights. You will need to get a US hull Identification Number for it. It will already have an HIN from the country of origin but IT IS NOT VALID IN THE US.
You need to contact the USCG at 202-372-1073 and they can send you some info about importing a boat.

Omatako will become famous soon enough
it's a pity that you're focussed on a Sadler for no other reason than the US is by far the best value for money for used boats in the world. But if it's a Sadler you want then that's probably all that needs saying.

As far as buying by "remote control" goes, I bought my boat in the US from New Zealand and effectively the whole deal was done on line. I had some surveys done intended to give one some comfort (not all that great) but in the final analysis I got the boat I was looking for and I am nearly three years down the track and still not disappointed. And I still believe I got a good deal.

Not every one's cup of tea but it can work - it did for me.
