When and where to buy?

Taking my time to learn the sailboat market seeing as how serious relationship a boat seems to be I've got a couple simple questions!

Is there a season that boats tend to come on the market? For instance maybe more sailors put their boat on the market after the prime Summer sailing season ends? Or maybe when they get itchy to sail in the Spring?

It seems like there was a wave of boats put on the market, and fewer now that Summer is here. I've noticed certain makes of boat are rare to come by within the local region, so it would be good to know if there is a time to keep a sharper eye out for certain boats that might come onto the market. I can wait for the right lady...

Any observations, thoughts?

In Florida and along the east coast there are seasons. In the fall and winter, many yachts come down south to cruise and avoid the snow up north. They follow the boat shows from Newport to Annapolis to Fort Lauderdale, head down to the Caribbean, and take advantage of the nice weather. They stay through Spring until June when hurricane season starts, insurance rates sky rocket, and temperatures go up. Then many move north again towards Annapolis or New England for the summer. At the moment in Fort Lauderdale, more and more docks are becoming vacant.

The "hot" season in the Northeast is spring. People are looking to buy for the upcoming season and owners are hoping for the best price. Best prices are typically in the fall when owners are facing another winter storage bill. Don't think there is a great difference in inventory however.

Owners are eager to sell...in the north before winter and in the south before hurricane season.
