1974 Helms 25

I recently purchased a Helms 25 and am wondering what experience anyone has had with this boat. I have had alot of boats in the past, but the only small sailboat I have owned was a 14' wooden sloop.
I paid $1500 for the boat and it seems to be very solid (owner hauled out and totally redid the whole boat in 2003). I think that was a fair price as I believe in karma.
I had to supply my own outboard, but at least I know it's dependable.

great boat, I learned to sail on one, mid 70's on Chesapeake Bay, turns out she was often the Wed night race winner in Annapolis. Easy to sail, quite comfortable, fairly quick

Helms 25

We bought a 1872 Helms 25 yera before last, had a great time sailing a fairly quick and forgiving boat all summer last year. Since we wanted a weekend cruiser, we are now selling our boat (check out the Blue Book price and for our combination of boat, O/B and trailer) the average retail price comes out to over $6000 - I would say you got a good deal.

It is a nice boat, a little close inside but with the retractable centerboard you can do so great gunkholing.

Good luck with the Helms.

PS - Mine is for sail - Seneca Lake, NY
