We are looking at purchasing a 1984 Laguna 30. We like the boat very much but I have 1 major concern. We are going to use it for a liveaboard and plan on doing as much sailing as our work schedule will allow. She has the best livaboard accommodations of any sailing capable 30 foot boat we have looked at. Our only concern is her coastal cruising ability because of her light displacement 8700# and balast 2800# her draft is only 4 feet. We would be wanting to sail to Catalina and in the general vacinity such as the Channel islands etc. Any input especially from anyone who has experience with this boat would be welcome and appreciated.
I have sailed on one a friend owns. It's a pretty well behaved boat. Very similar to my Catalina 30 but considerably lighter. I think the Laguna has more interior storage but it is a little tighter going forward on deck. If you're in a light wind area the lighter weight should help.
