I'd point out that a 35-40' catamaran is going to be upwards of $200,000 market value used....and that a 35-40' monohull will probably start around $60,000 and head north for ones that are in decent shape and capable of sailing to "far away places"...which means bluewater capable.
If you really are a "can do anything" guy, why don't you save up enough money to actually reasonably purchase a boat, rather than asking for a pipe dream on a sailing forum.
In my experience, if you can't afford to buy the boat for what it is worth, you probably can't afford to maintain it or berth it either. In many states, even if someone was willing to sell you a boat for 25-70% of its market value, you'd probably end up paying taxes for what it is really worth, which doesn't sound like something you can afford at the moment.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
