Reluctantly for sale after 26 years of ownership. She is a beautiful and elegant long fin and skeg sailboat designed by Peter Brett. Rivals are well known for their sea-keeping abilities and are extremely well built. Berths for 6 in theory, she is a comfortable cruising home for 2 with visitors from time to time.

As well as the standard high quality build, she also has an Aries self-steering gear, custom bow roller to carry 2 anchors, extra water tanks to a total of 70 UK gallons, oversized rigging and a wood stove.

33 lb Bruce anchor with 150' chain
35 lb CQR with 35' chain and 150' rode
2 Lewmar 44 self tailing genoa winches
Battenless main, 150 genoa (roller furling), working jib (for detachable inner forestay), storm jib, old main, cruising chute.
Tiller steering
Aries vane steering
Volvo MD 2B

Currently afloat in Camden Harbor, Maine.

$38,500

Sounds like our Southern Rival. Why is it that owners keep them for so long!

Good luck on the sale..

How long have you owned Southern Rival? I am heartbroken at selling her, my health is not good enough to handle her alone any more and occasional help is not enough. She has never let me down, carried me across the Atlantic, through storms and maintained perfect manners at all times.

Sorry to hear you have to sell your boat. I hope that you find someone who will appreciate her and take care of her.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Maybe just maybe cos they are such lovely boats....I fell in love with the R34 from a distance via Yachting Monthly back in the 70's I guess. Tom Cunliffe (sp?) used one in a couple of his Yachtmaster books as well.
