allied princess

I am considering the purchase of a 1979 36 Allied Princess cutter and was interested in anyone's thoughts and or experiences on them. I am downsizing from a 40' Bayfield ketch.

Welcome to Sailnet.

You really would be better off starting your own thread on this specific topic rather than posting off-topic and hijacking this one. Please read the POST in my signature to help you get the most out of your time on Sailnet.

Also, it would help if you said what you were planning on using the boat for, where you plan on sailing the boat, and what your rough budget for a boat is, since these factors can determine what boats are better suited for your use and sailing area. For instance, if you're planning on daysailing, then the Bayfield 40 is probably a lousy choice. If you're planning on cruising the Bahamas, a boat with a 7' draft would be a problem....etc.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

unfortunately i just sold mine, they are great boats, is hard to find one in good condition though. they sail great even in light winds suprisingly.Hull wise they are overbuilt for sure, mine was an 84 and all the teak etx was although unfinished, was all in great shape when i bout her. They will have all the normal issues of a older boat, regards to wiring, etc. Look for issues with the mast support under the mizzen mast, fuel tank if hasn't been rep[laced make sure to check it out. Mine had a westerbeke 52, great engine, actually made by perkins and all parts are readily available. Hated to part with her, she definitely is the prettiest boat whevever you go and you get alot of compliments!! Let me know if you have any further questions.
