this site does give you actual sale price data (though you are relying on their honesty):
Boats for Sale - New & Used Boat Sales - BoatQuest.com

given the volatility of the usd/eu currency markets over the past decade combined with the relative weakness of the USD, it would be interesting to compile data from the us only and see how the trends match up--ive gotta think that given the two points above there would be sig. variation...

" but it is reasonable to me that the older a boat is, the lower its value, on average, in general."...

This assumption is simply wrong...you may be looking at some data on a particular line, vendor or style of boat...but the statement is wrong and can be proven by looking at Sabre, PSC, Shannon, Swan, Hinckley, etc...they all made boats that have proven to be worth quite a bit, in spite of their age. i.e. their "older" boats are "worth" more or are valued more than a brand new production boat of similar size...

that then brings me to - My only point is that the data you are using (as above) is at best suspect...very likely altered to benefit someone - not you, or just plain wrong...as in the above...

But, you may continue to analyze and draw correlations to that erroneous data...and decide upon a boat to one day own.

YMMV....

Not worthwhile to revisit the specific boat issues again, except to note that there will likely be exceptions in specific cases to any general rule, other than in mathematics.

However, depreciation, the gradual reduction in the value of a building, vehicle, machine or boat or most other physical objects over time, as those items are used over time, is generally recognized as a real phenomonon operating against real things which are subject to wear and tear, like a boat and its sails and systems, unless stored in museum. But, I certainly haven't been everywhere, or seen even a tiny particle of everything, so will leave it that your conclusions may be right, and mine wrong.
