Not worthwhile to revisit the specific boat issues again, except to note that there will likely be exceptions in specific cases to any general rule, other than in mathematics.
However, depreciation, the gradual reduction in the value of a building, vehicle, machine or boat or most other physical objects over time, as those items are used over time, is generally recognized as a real phenomonon operating against real things which are subject to wear and tear, like a boat and its sails and systems, unless stored in museum. But, I certainly haven't been everywhere, or seen even a tiny particle of everything, so will leave it that your conclusions may be right, and mine wrong.
