27ft diesel, wheel.$2500?

Does anyone know of a forgotten 27 ft (can't be longer) sloop with diesel, and wheel for around $ 2500 within 500 miles of Ohio? So much miss sailing and so anxious to get back into it. Would be ever so grateful for help!

I doubt any 27' boat with a diesel (or not) for $2500 will be anything but a project. Wheel or not.

That's a fact. I bought my 27 footer for $2500 with a wheel. The inboard has been long dead and replaced with an outboard. It only took 3 years to rebuild the boat.

Brian, you are saying exactly what I was thinking. I haven't checked lately, but before buying our boat in 2009, we looked at a diesel-equipped Catalina 27 that was listing at roughly $15k. One might pay a bit more or less, depending on the make.

Unless the OP is really into "projects", he may want to either revise his budget or consider joining some type of sailing co-operative. I'm not sure what might be available in the mid-west, but they are around, I'd bet.

It would be worth your while phoning or visiting marinas and boatyards looking for abandoned boats. A Pearson Triton is going for $1750 in one VA? yard just now.

There's a country song by I can't remember who about the $1000 car. And then you spend another $1000 fixing it and what do you Have? A$2000 $1000 car. Tis a nice dream, but not often reality.

15K is more like the going rate for a C30. I've seen sound examples with good engines going for that price.

All the lower cost C30s i looked at had A4s or plywood keel sumps that had not not been updated or wet decks or some reason they were in the 10k to 15k price range

And i could pretty much say the same about every low cost larger boat

1975 Bristol 27. Atomic 4, tiller steering (as all 27' boats should be), needs everything upgraded. $5500...
