1981 Sovereign 17 ?

Hey folks, new to this site and am wondering what you think about these little boats. I've looked at one recently, it seems to in fair shape...hull and deck are pretty good...needing some work on rigging...sails in good condition, trailer doesn't look too bad...and it's cheap!
This is the size I want, a com-pac 16 would be ideal, but the cost is issue.
Can I put a couple grand( including purchase) in the Sov and have a comparable boat

I had a 23 ft sovereign back invthe early 80s. Nice boat but a slow sailor build quality was okay, nothing special

Both are shoal draft keel boats (small keels) and are not intended for heavy weather.
