Hi there,
I found in Miami an IRWIN 52 that's first seem to be a bargain. But I got a surveyor and he found a lot of issues.
engine got water and is kaput (nobody did flush the engine with cerosin after water entries
transmission is maybe OK, but was flooded too
the generator is kaput and cant be recondition
the new installed bow-thruster seems to be flooded too and is not working
electrical system in the v-berth environment is not functional at all
On deck all the
rig must be replaced because of rust and age as well the lifelines because of cracks. The bulkheads and the windows was all leaking and are terrible fixed with silicon (10 day ago it was not painted and not semi-professional fixed )The reason for the partial rod can be the chain-plates that are inside the hull and got a little space for moving that allows water to get in the boat behind the windows.
Under and close to the chain-plates and the woodwork under and close to the windows are some softspots and every hole from outside to inside is terrible and semi professional covert with ....silicon.
The statement about this boat was, that this boat did never grounded "with military precision".
But today I've got a really good , a very helpfully and experience diver for underwater jobs and we did a dive together. He pointed me to the rudder stock. The rudder stock was completely broken and a movement about 3-4 inches was easily possible without any power.
Additional we found out, that the prop-shaft bearings seem to be suffer under extremely violence and this area was covert and stuffed with silicon to get is water protect. I guess, from here came mainly the water in the boat and she sunk.
My question now is:
How much can it be to get everything repaired, special in the underwater section. I have time, I have experience, but I have limited money available.
Or is this boat maybe rubbish at all ? we stopped the underwater survey and did`n show the rest of the bottom in detail.
Additional there was some deep scratches in the hull ans some issues more. But I found some really good since, that the boat was grounded. The mizzenmast is out of centrer for more then 4 degrees plus the violence that happened to the rudder and shaft
We have trust the broker as well the owner and have spend so much time and money and now we found out, that it seem that the owner wasn't honest at all. This boat was grounded for sure and badly destroyed.
Any adviser or new offer to another cutter or ketch boat starting with 44+ is welcome.
We look forward to buy quick..so let us now, when you know something don't hesitate to write me. The money is already here and we are keen to start or advantage
kind regards
Jens
