Boat Values

I had a survey performed and they gave a low BUCNET value for the boat. Any suggestions other than BUCNET to verify or is BUCNET a logical source?

Re: Boat Values

Is it a pre-purchase or insurance survey?

Boat values have dropped considerably. Why do you care about the "low BUCNET value"? Agreed to pay too much and now can't get a loan? Work the seller down. You did include a contingency for financing, right?

Re: Boat Values

soldboats.com (available to member brokers and dealers) is a MUCH more realistic source for boat values...

"low" bucnet means nothing when you are in a private sale ...it is a "number" calculated and used by banks to determine the "value" of an asset....it works OK for cars and perhaps small, trailerable sailboats or PWCs....but is all but useless for larger sailboats, as there are NO standard 36' sailboat...

best of luck, more details as to what you are up against, may result in more specific experience to help you out.

Re: Boat Values

The pre-purchase survey was excellent. Very exact and detailed. I hate to lose what i thought was a good deal, but I have to trust the pro's. I am interested in the old "trust but verify". Of course the selling the broker sends comps that lead me believe i am getting a good deal.

Re: Boat Values

If you share a little more info someone may have more relevant input.... What boat? difference between purchase price/valuation? Issues presented by the survey? its recommendations?

Re: Boat Values

Yes, hard to give an answer without some details. When I was in the marker a couple of years ago (both selling and buying), I found little correlation with the values in sources like BUC and NADA and the "real" market. Sometimes high, sometimes low. Without lots of data, they seem to use a depreciation formula which doesn't work very well.
