Re: Alberg 30 for sale - extensive refit over 2011/2012, very nice boat

You've done a marvelous job on a worthy boat. As a former A 30 owner, i can relate. And having done my own 8000 hour rebuild on my B40 after being sunk in Hurricane Rita, I can further relate. The post re-build blues are a real thing.
Sometimes that itch just gets scratched.
BTW, I tend to agree about the engine. An engine is more than a frill or convenience. Sailing almost 40 years, including a 2 year cruise,
they too often are a critical necessity.

Chris, You did a beautiful job on the boat. You had me wondering what the end game was, way back when; when you were building a bluewater boat, and asking about sailing down the intracoastal waterway engineless.

That said, you now own a beautiful sailboat, with an outboard engine, and it's probably going to take awhile to sell it.
...pick a nice weekend and sail that sucker to St Michaels. Have you had the sails up since you splashed her?

Drop an anchor in St Michaels for the weekend, have some crabs...head up to the Carpenter Street Saloon, shoot some pool, have a few beers, listen to some music and fall into your bunk...You do know how to sail..don't you ? ;-)

I'm not going to believe it, until I see some sails up on that baby...

Re: Alberg 30 for sale - extensive refit over 2011/2012, very nice boat

There's nothing wrong with enjoying the build process more than boat itself. I can fully
relate as I've taken up the hobby of building guitars and it has replaced my desire to play
them. At first it was a little strange, as the whole reason I decided to build one was to be
able to play it. But now I find that as soon as the guitar is finished, I'm literally and figuratively
"over it". It's time to move on.

Good luck and I hope you sell her sooner rather than later.

Chris and Cate, what sailing/boating experience did you have prior to undertaking this project?

I grew up on the water heavily involved with water related sports (surfing, skiing etc), and I grew up around boats.

Re: Alberg 30 for sale - extensive refit over 2011/2012, very nice boat

Well..I just wanted to say that I had a 9.9 sailmaster Merc with a bigfoot prop on my 8,400 lb disp. Columbia 29 MKII...and it worked decently well even in 4-5 foot following seas...once I got used to it...the original atomic 4 had been removed...previous owner had made a good custom motor bracket that helped...got rid of that boat only because I lucked into the C-40...I had a 5 hp tohatsu on the back from Tarpon Springs to Cedar Keys...which I mostly motored..worked fine and got me to almsot 4 knots and I was heavily loaded with gear/supplies... so I think outboards have a place on 30-footers on down...maybe bigger than 30 feet even and a bit depends on the transom-style...Chris..that's a great looking boat...good luck with things...I'm a sailer AND and a nailer...never been one or the other for too long though...and it works for me I guess...

Le petite mort = The little death = ? in English?

Take Heron up to the sailnet get together this weekend? You might have to leave right about now to do that though.

Bay Bridge, here I come.
