Going Smaller

Okay, so I want to go smaller than I had considered before, in the 32- to 36-foot range. So, I''ve got to start my search all over again. Not an unpleasant task. I still want the most useful boat I can get to cruise on and to me that means being able to sail and anchor in the out-of-the-way areas where no one else goes.

For example, I''ve always been enchanted by seeing boats moored in the shallows inside the reef of Puerto Viejo, CR. First, it was a cat, then this winter it was a Caroff Explorer 38 which drew 3 feet (and rolled quite a bit with the CB up). And I figure a K/CB is still preferable even on smaller boats with their shallower drafts.

So, I''m considering the:

C&C-32 k/cb and C&C-36 k/cb

Pearson-35 k/cb

Islander-33 and Islander-34

Tartan-34 k/cb

Bristol-32 k/cb

I would like to have feedback as to whether these boats are considered to be sturdy enough for prolonged ocean cruising, seaworthy (including balancing and pointing), generally comfortable in motion (at anchor and, especially, in a seaway), and easily driven in light airs.

I''m interested in any comments anyone may have.

Thanks,
Chas
