Need boat for long coastal trips

I have some experience with smaller boats (alphas), but want to buy a boat to practice on, and eventually sail to either the carribean or chile. My upper price limit is $15,000. Any recommendations or advice is appreciated. Thanks.

From where is it that you want to depart to sail to the Carribean or Chile. To be frank you would be hard pressed to find a boat that is capable of doing that, at elast without a lot of work, that costs less than $15K.
