Kennedy 30 "Tiga"

I'm in the process of looking at a 30' wood composite sailboat (red cedar with foam and glass on the outside). Its advertised as a Kennedy 30. The name is Tiga. I'm curious if anyone knows anything about this boat. I can't find anything on the web. Thanks Mike

Re: Kennedy 30 "Tiga"

That boat is most certainly a 'one-off'.. I remember when it first turned up at a regatta, 'Round Bowen, I think, probably close to 20 years back or more.. It was kind of radical at the time, not so much anymore.

Sorry, can't add anything re how well she was built, and don't recall seeing her out a lot after the first season or two... I suspect she may not have sailed to what was probably a fairly punitive rating...

Re: Kennedy 30 "Tiga"

Thanks for the quick reply. The boat is listed as a 1997 but the listing could be wrong? It's currently being sold by the estate of the second owner. The salesman did say it was originally a Canadian boat. You're the second person to suggest it doesn't sail to its PHRF rating. I think it's rated somewhere around 120 which is as you suggested fairly punitive. Cheers

Re: Kennedy 30 "Tiga"

looks built as an all out handicap racer. light boat late 80s early 90s could be as late as 97. genoa track for the 155 . forward mounted rig but with straight spreaders and inboard shrouds. lifting keel to make it easier to travel but still 10 ' wide so not that easy. that is a good way to make it strong and light.

Re: Kennedy 30 "Tiga"

Very interesting. Thanks for your reply. Have you seen the boat in person? I have yet to see photos of the mast so it seems you have more details about the spreaders than I do. What about builder? I can't find anything on the web about this boat.

Cheers

Could well be '97... nowadays my ability to accurately date events is suspect (yeah.. that was a couple of years back... turns out it was 10)

I remember it looked pretty interesting, you'd need a thorough surveyor to be comfortable with the construction aspects.. depends what you're after I guess.

Re: Kennedy 30 "Tiga"

Looks to be "cold molded" construction.

You may want to go over on the Wooden boat forum, lots of good guys and help there.
