For me the 9.2C demonstrates what is wrong with the center cockpit on smaller boats.

There is no cockpit storage. That is a huge downside. Where do you put the fenders, docking lines, dinghy paddles, and other "outside" stuff?

There is a ton of windage with the design. I have a high freeboard boat (Pearson 28-2), and it looks low and sleek compared to a 9.2C. My boat (with about 4" to 6" more freeboard than most 30' boats) is already a challenge to dock in high winds, any more windage would be dangerous from my point of view.

The living space is chopped up more. There is increased privacy in the stern cabin compared to a boat with a large quarterberth (like my Pearson), but the main cabin is a bit smaller. Like my Pearson the main cabin and V-berth are connected.

I can see theoretical benefits on a center cockpit on larger boats, but have limited personal experience on boats >30'. On a 30' boat I think it is a disaster.

We have a 42' CC. Full time coastal cruising.
weve had many many couples aboard from mid 40 foot AC boats who were drooling over the space, layout and visibility of our boat. Not just being polite, serious.

weve seen many AC boats with horrible helm visibility. Sight lines thru the dodger was very limited. Seating at the helm was crude and uncomfortable with no back support for sitting at the helm for hours.
I often look at boom height of our boat vs AC boats of similar size and see no appreciable difference

Our cockpit entry and egress is easy. I see most AC boats with much more tricky access into the cockpit from the deck, especially with a full enclosure. Some are downright difficult. Docking is very easy when you are in the center of the boat and can see all 4 corners plus the easy in/out of the cockpit makes grabbing a line much easier.
if you are doing long offshore runs in heavy weather maybe the AC is a better choice. You dont sound like you are doing that. And docking/windage? Any boat with a full enclosure will have similar windage. A full enclosure on a CC is much simpler and easy to set up for opening and screening.

I love center cockpit boats , as long as the lines look good ie: IMO it has to be over 40 ft. to pull off the center cockpit. A friend of mine bought a 30ft. S2 cp . It was the worst thing I'd ever seen . One of my favorite cp's is the Westsail 42 but at 100-130 K it's not what you asked for, however it is not impossible to find a fixer for 70K . To get some quick pics & specs. of a W42 you could go to world cruiser yacht co. Hope you like it.

I've had two center cockpit boats an S2 9.2C which had a tendency to sail around at anchor until I put on a riding sail and a Whitby 42 cc ketch which stays put at anchor. The S2 was a little tight for liveaboard. Docking in winds and currents is a learned skill with any boat.
